Old Pictures of Fairview Beach
In May, 2008, Arlene Perry from Nags Head, N.C. donated several picture albums (containing pictures from 1930 to 1952) to the F.B.R.A . The albums had belonged to her step-father, Jerry Sonnenberg. Jerry built the pier, and opened up the river for public access. He also developed Fairview Village, sometimes referred to as the “new beach”.

The picture below shows Arlene explaining some of the information that she brought to Fairview:

Janet Harrover scanned over 200 pictures.

Angel of the Potomac
How many of you remember the object across the river from Fairview Beach that looked like an angel?  It was actually one of two radio telescopes at the Maryland Point Observatory that was used to explore outer space.  The bright white dish, when aimed towards Fairview Beach, gave the appearance of an angel.  That was in the past; please see this article from the Washington Post in 2004.  If you happen to have a picture of the “angel”, please submit it to one of the webmasters for this web site.

The picture below shows one of the radio telescopes in the foreground, with the rusted “angel” in the right, lower background.  The second picture down faces the “angel” from the river.
